They Do It with Mirrors is a crime novel by Agatha Christie first published in 1952. The book tells the story of Mrs. Marple's visit to her old friend, Carrie Louise, to ease the concern of her other friend, Ruth Van Rydock, about Carrie's wellbeing. At Carrie's house, Mrs. Marple learns a lot about her friend's particular family history involving a couple of broken marriages and a lot of different kind of people from different places that now live together in her house because of it. Ruth's fear becomes reality when the son of Carrie's first husband is found dead with a bullet in his body. There's also the evidence that Carrie has been poisoned for some time by an unknown person.
Similar to other Mrs. Marple's stories, this book puts the title character's sharp perception of human nature at the heart of the story, making this series very unique compared to other crime/detective stories. The writer, as always, plants the story with colorful personalities and scatters around clues and red herrings throughout the story to keep things interesting. The conclusion is really satisfying, one that beautifully explains everything that has been written from the very beginning of the book.
Definitely worth a read.
