Cards on the Table - Agatha Christie

"Man is an unoriginal animal," said Hercule Poirot.

Cards on the Table is another Agatha Christie's novel first published in 1936. The book tells the story of Hercule Poirot, attending an invitation to dinner by an eccentric collector named Mr. Shaitana. His host previously told him that he collects murderers that get away from their crime. After a usual dinner, Poirot and other guests play bridge for hours until midnight, not realizing their host had passed away.

Cards on the Table is, in my opinion, one complex detective novel. In this book, the writer wants you to suspect everyone involved in the crime equally by giving them the same motive for killing Mr. Shaitana, which is to silence him from telling their crime in the past. The book successfully achieves this goal by twisting the plot to unexpected directions every time there is a new revelation even until the very last page of the book.

Although the ending is a bit weak, I still enjoy this book very much. Hercule Poirot's tricks and methods for solving a murder case is always an interesting thing to look forward to.
