Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - John Tiffany

Those we love never truly leave us, Harry. There are things that death cannot touch.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the 8th and latest continuation of the original Harry Potter story. Its story revolves around Harry's son, Albus, and his friend Scorpius, 19 years after Voldemort's loss in the Battle of Hogwarts. Albus, burdened with his own father's greatness, sought his own adventure with his friend to undo one of his father's mistake, that is the death of Cedric Diggory.

This book is originally a two-part stage play in London written by the book's original author, J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany in 2016. The book was released in the same year, 9 years after the previous book, the Deathly Hallows. This book is quite thick, but it reads fast because it's all dialogues. Probably they only adjusted a few parts of the scripts of the stage play. Each part of the acts is often super short and really straightforward, one thing you could expect from a stage play, I guess.

I really like Harry Potter. They're the perfect movies for a lot of us when growing up. And this book offers a fun and interesting new chapter of the story that not only brings back all the old characters that we love but also introduces us to whole new characters. While being originated from a stage play makes the story significantly simplified, the writers really did a great job in making sure that it's still a Harry Potter story. The theme, the characters, and the atmosphere around the story still feel very familiar to the Wizarding World we know and love.

Overall, it's a short fun trip back to Harry Potter's world. I know this book is basically just milking the intellectual property until its last drop, but we can all give it a pass if it turned out pretty good.
