Baptism of Fire - Andrzej Sapkowski

Life, it turns out, isn't poetry! And do you know why? Because it's so resistant to criticism!

Baptism of Fire is the third book of The Witcher's main novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, first published in 1992. After the attack on Thanedd, Geralt is barely alive, Yennefer and Ciri are missing, and the rest of the kingdoms are filled by uncertainty and distrust. The Chapter of Wizards is gathering allies and enemies to rebuild itself and learn the mystery surrounding the Elder Blood. Geralt, barely healed from his wounds, set on an impossible journey to save Ciri from the Nilfgaard, accompanied by the most peculiar old and new friends.

This book takes things slowly after the explosive conflict in the previous book. The writer takes its time with minor plots while steadily moving the main plot forward. This book also offers more mythical and fairy-tale-like elements that kind of lost in this politics-heavy main novels. Just like the previous books, Baptism of Fire is a solid book in itself, asking the questions regarding morality and altruism.
