Children of Time - Adrian Tchaikovsky

A life lived entirely at the whim of another is no life at all.

Children of Time is a sci-fi novel written by Adrian Tchaikovsky in 2015. The story is set in the future where mankind is roaming among the stars to find the replacement of the uninhabitable Earth. The last generation of humans is sailing in Gilgamesh spaceship to find a new home and stumbles upon one of terraformed planets that is guarded by its scientist-creator/sentient AI. The dawn of a great war is coming between the last humans of Gilgamesh and the planet's mysterious new hosts.

This novel is mind-blowingly brilliant, from its ideas to its storytelling. The generational world-building is cleverly designed to steadily create a believable history for the world, while also create emotional conflicts between its characters.

The ideas surrounding AI, evolution, language, terraformation, space colony, and many others are condensed into one giant beautiful story. This thought-provoking book is definitely one of the works of literature that will be talked more in the future.
