Sleeping Murder - Agatha Christie

"Jealousy, you know, is usually not an affair of causes. It is much more-how shall I say?-fundamental than that. Based on the knowledge that one's love is not returned. And so one goes on waiting, watching, expecting...that the loved one will turn to someone else."

Another Agatha Christie's book! I know, I know. But this one is good too!

Anyway, Sleeping Murder is a mystery/thriller novel written by Agatha Christie, first published in 1976. The story revolves around a newly-wed couple, Gwenda and Giles. The wife was looking for a new house in Dillmouth when she stumbles across the one that she likes. While renovating the bought house, Gwenda kept finding things there that made her believe that she knows this house very well even though she was raised since baby in New Zealand. After nearly convincing herself that she was crazy, the couple turned to Miss Marple for help.

This book is yet another very coherent and well-written story from the author. If you read the synopsis of the book, you might think that there's a supernatural theme on the story. But I'm afraid that's not the case here. Even though there's some spooky stuff happened early on the story, it's not as intense and dominant as in the author's other books, such as And Then There Were None. Instead the one theme that makes the story is jealousy and relationship in general.

Although the star of the series, Miss Marple, doesn't get shown too much, she gets her time to shine whenever it's needed. Most of the time, we're following the couple with their investigation à la Tuppence and Tommy. And while the end twist is kinda predictable halfway through the story, it's still interesting to follow the slow-burning experience that this book offers. Definitely a good story to pass the time.
