Uzumaki is manga/graphic novel made by Junji Ito, first published in 2000. It tells the story of a town in Japan called Kurouzu-cho. Kirie Goshima, a high-school student that lives in this town, is living her normal life when she encounters supernatural phenomena involving spirals. One by one the residents of the town fall victim by this strange and deadly occurrence.
This book is horrifying, ridiculous, and left me wondering what in the world the author was thinking when he created this. I think that applies to all of the author's works. But this is my first time reading his book from start to finish and I must say that I actually like it. His artwork, the first appeal of his book, is a stuff of nightmare (which is excellent for a horror book). I can definitely say that I would not want to see it as a kid. Furthermore, the story complements his gruesome artwork by providing a mysterious story that starts strong and builds up even more until the spiralling climax.
Overall, this book is a very interesting read indeed. Would recommend to any horror fan that is interested to be entertained by the twisted mind of this author.
