1Q84 Book 1 - Haruki Murakami

Violence does not always take visible form, and not all wounds gush blood.

This book is the first of the 3-part story of 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami and I really really love it.

Before we start, I don't know whether I should make this review or not, because reading the first book is not enough to understand the whole story. I think the original story was written in one book, but got divided into 3 books because of the large amount of pages (about 1500 pages). But I'm going to make the review anyway, cause I want to.

The story follows two main characters, Aomame and Tengo. Aomame is a young woman working as a body trainer plus a specialist on sending men to another world. While Tengo is a man, as old as Aomame, who is a novelist and a math teacher. These two individuals live their own comfortable lives until one day something got into their lives and changed them for better or worse. For Tengo, it was meeting a 17-year old girl who writes a novel, Air Chrysalis. And for Aomame it was discovering that the world was no longer the world that she once knew. That the world now has 2 moons.

The first book does a great job building up a story that touches the smallest details of Aomame and Tengo past and current lives, while also sets things up for a greater narrative for both of them. Its slow pace of storytelling gives benefit of the vast amount of subjects that the writer could put into the story. Politics, drama, philosophy, literatures, and mystery.

I still have no idea what would happen in the story next, which is why I'm going to read the other two books as soon as possible. I heard it will get creepier in the next book lol.
