~ Spoilers for The Way of Kings Part 2 ~
Words of Radiance Part 1 is the first part of the second book of the Stormlight Archive series. Authored by Brandon Sanderson, the book was first published in 2014. After saving Dalinar and Adolin's lives, Kaladin, the leader of Bridge Four along with the rest of the bridgmen were given their freedom at last after Dalinar trades them for his Shardblade. Kaladin, now working as Dalinar's captain, is still working to trust Dalinar who says that he wants to reform the Knights of Radiant to save Alethkar. On the other side of the continent, Shallan and Jasnah make their way to the Shattered Plains in order to find the lost city, Urithiru and save mankind from the return of Voidbringers. But, the enemies had attacked them when they least expected it.
This book takes things very slowly. Building up the characters and the plots without revealing anything too big. Shallan is being the center of the author's attention as we get to see a lot of her side of the adventure and the events from her past as a scared and obedient young woman shadowed by the presence of her father. The rest of the book is mainly told from the perspective of Kaladin, Adolin, and a Parshendi named Eshonai. We don't see much of Dalinar in this book, which is quite a shame.
This book feels like a prelude to something bigger that I hope would be paid off in the second part. That said, the book itself still offers a lot of interesting things. From the politics around the Alethkar highprinces, Shallan's daring adventure to get to Shattered Plains, to Eshonai and the Parshendi's perspective of the war. The author takes his time to build this wonderfully mysterious land of Roshar along with its characters, and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds in the end.
